As bushfires ripped through the region, the Shepparton local wasted no time mobilising his non-profit organisation, People Supporting People, deploying himself and a team of volunteers to Longwood to provide meals, water and coffee to those in need.
Every day since then, their services have been in high demand.
“There are others, not just the firefighters, there are some people from the community and all the other workers that are around who have come down and grabbed meals,” volunteer Colette Martin said.
“They all seem in pretty good spirits, but you can see the exhaustion and everything on their face.”
Despite flagging energy levels, morale in Longwood remains high.
Ms Martin said she had witnessed an outpouring of community support, both within the town and from neighbouring areas.
“It’s been fantastic,” she said.
“As soon as we put something on social media asking for extra drinks or supplies, donations come in very quickly.”
