The Greater Shepparton community has until midnight on Sunday, February 22 to nominate a local woman for the 2026 Greater Shepparton Women’s Award.
The award is an opportunity from The Greater Shepparton Women’s Charter Advisory Committee to celebrate women who have made significant contributions to support the local community and promote gender equality.
The committee promotes active citizenship and participation for women in Greater Shepparton.
“So much of the work that holds our community together happens in the background and it is important that we recognise and celebrate it,” committee chair and City of Greater Shepparton councillor Sam Spinks said.
The 2025 recipient, Fazela Abbasi, was recognised for supporting Greater Shepparton’s Afghan community through her leadership and advocacy work.
“A nomination helps shine a light on their work and the impact it has on others. I encourage everyone to consider the women in their lives and put forward a nomination,” Mayor Shane Sali said.
The award will be presented in partnership with Soroptimist International of Shepparton on Thursday, March 5 at an International Women’s Day Breakfast.
Nomination forms can be found on council’s website.
