Launched at its International Women's Day event early this year, the C4EM community project aims to pay tribute to 100 inspiring women from across the Echuca-Moama community, from all walks of life and of all ages and backgrounds.
This project will feature the stories of 100 women — their unique perspectives, contributions and influence — and will be captured in a book to be launched on International Women’s Day 2026 that aims to showcase the importance of female leadership across the community.
Project co-ordinator Fleur Ferris explained how this project wasn’t about fame, titles or big achievements.
“It’s about real women and real lives — capturing who we are as a community, right now,’’ she said.
‘’From the quiet achievers to the community champions, every story matters. Every woman matters.
“You don’t need to think of yourself as extraordinary (though we bet you are). If you live in the Echuca-Moama region, we want to hear your story – or the story of a woman you admire.
‘’Because when future generations look back, this book will tell them who we were — through 100 diverse, powerful, and authentic voices.’’
C4EM held its inaugural International Women’s Day event in March 2025 and celebrated the unique stories of five local women, Olivia Batchelor, Jamiah Clarke, Nicole Aquino, Nina O’Brien and Penny Silver, to showcase the diversity of women across our region living remarkable lives. Ordinary women doing extraordinary things.
At the close of nominations, 100 women will be chosen by the C4EM IWD committee from varying age groups, backgrounds and sectors to be interviewed by a collective of young local aspiring writers who will be mentored by experienced writers and journalists from within the community.
C4EM board chair Catherine Lees said the collaborative process aimed to bring women of all ages together on a project that shines a light on all women across the region.
“It’s a snapshot in time of women across our region that will be beautifully captured by the collaboration between young aspiring women in our community and those more senior women with the skills to tell these unique stories,” she said.
“We encourage the community to nominate any woman they think has an interesting or inspiring story that can be shared and captured to represent the women of today.’’
