Nicholls young people to have voice heard in Parliament

Nicholls residents aged 21 and under are encouraged to write a 90-second speech on issues that matter most to them, with Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell to read out selected speeches in Parliament.

Mr Birrell said the Raise Our Voice campaign was a fantastic opportunity to hear from young people in the electorate.

“I’m excited to find out more about the issues and concerns that matter most to our future leaders,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to amplifying their voices and reading local speeches in parliament for the nation to hear.”

This year’s speech prompt is ‘What should Australia’s new parliament accomplish?’

To help people get started, Mr Birrell shared his top speech writing tips —to choose one issue and make your points clear, provide background and context, and call for action.

The Youth Voice in Parliament campaign was a national, non-partisan initiative that aimed to increase the political literacy of all young voters and voters-to-be by connecting them with their local MP.

The Raise Our Voice Campaign was supported by UNICEF Australia and the Australian Youth Affairs Coalition.
