Ten new trainees have started paid traineeships with the company this month, based in locations across the state.
The roles were put in place to meet demand for skilled workers to support Victoria’s energy transition and help meet its renewable targets.
Nearly 2000 applications for the traineeships were received last year.
AusNet executive general manager of distribution Andrew Linnie said the overwhelming response showed a strong appetite among Victorians to be part of the future energy system.
“We were blown away by the level of interest,” he said.
“Those selected showed a genuine passion for the energy transition, and we’re proud to have given them the opportunity to build long-term careers close to home.”
The positions include four energy project co-ordinator trainees, based in Seymour Leongatha, Sale and Bairnsdale, three access planning trainees in Seymour, Beaconsfield and Traralgon, and three network controller trainees working from the Melbourne CBD.
The three-year program offers participants hands-on industry experience and the opportunity to live and work locally, all while earning an “attractive starting salary”.
On completion, trainees will graduate with an Advanced Diploma of ESI – Power Systems and a pathway into a permanent role with AusNet.
“This program is about more than training. It’s about strengthening opportunities for regional communities and making sure Victoria has the skilled workforce needed to deliver the energy transition,” Mr Linnie said.
“We are creating meaningful careers in our regional communities, building the critical skills needed and helping Victoria reach its renewable energy and emissions targets.
“These trainees will finish the program fully qualified and ready to step into permanent roles supporting Victoria’s energy future.”
