The kitchen was officially opened on Friday, September 4, with café attendant of 18 years Giuliana Bovalina Alessi cutting the ribbon.
For Ms Bovalina Alessi, being chosen to cut the ribbon was a special moment.
“It was an honour to do it because I have worked here for many years,” she said.
“We feel like we are in a new home, a new club now.”
The redevelopment has provided Sporties Barooga’s culinary team with a modern facility designed to improve efficiency and cater for the venue’s growing needs.
Sporties Barooga chief executive Tony Tranter said it was an important investment in the club’s future.
“While much of the work happens behind the scenes, the kitchen is at the heart of our food and hospitality operations,” he said.
“This redevelopment provides our team with a modern, purpose-built workspace that will allow us to continue improving the quality, consistency and variety of what we offer.”
Head chef Dave Hall said the new design had created a more connected working environment, allowing staff to work more as a team.
“It’s made it easier for us, we’re not individuals in the kitchen so much any more and that’s what I’m most excited about,” he said.
The redevelopment included upgraded electric stoves, which Mr Hall said were more reliable and made cooking faster.
Mr Tranter acknowledged the staff, contractors and suppliers involved in bringing the project to life, as well as members and guests for their patience throughout the redevelopment.
“A project of this scale requires an enormous amount of planning and co-operation, particularly when you’re undertaking the work within an operating hospitality venue,” he said.
“We thank everyone who has played a part in delivering the project and, importantly, our members and guests for their understanding while the work was under way.
“Now we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone in and letting the food coming out of the new kitchen do the talking.”
