The event, scheduled for Saturday, October 4 from 9am to 4pm, will feature over 300 different species of native plants suitable for the Echuca Moama region.
“The native plant showcase is the ideal place for people who are new to the area, or building a new home, to find out what natives grow best and would suit the local environment,” Australian Plants Society Echuca president Sue Robertson said.
“The importance of native flowers in our gardens is to attract native bees, wild birds and wildlife.
“If it is an endangered species of plant, it can be carried on from being in people's gardens, where it can be preserved.”
The showcase will feature displays from Goldfields Revegetation nursery and include a basket weaver from Rochester, along with a diorama of eremophila and wild native flower paintings.
Both the onsite nurseries and members of the Australian Plants Society, Echuca, will be available on the day to answer any questions you have about growing native plants in the region.
“At this time of year, many natives are flowering in the garden,” Sue said.
“If you plant your native garden properly, you will always have something flowering in the garden and natives can be quite beautiful.”
Sue offered advice for native plant care.
“Native plants don’t like a lot of phosphorus, so you don’t use normal plant fertiliser to feed them,” she said.
“If your natives look a bit poorly, the best thing to feed them with is a bit of liquid seaweed.”
The Australian Plants Society meets at the Campaspe Library in Echuca on the fourth Thursday of each month, from February to November, with field trips throughout the year.
Entry to the showcase includes tea and coffee, and plants will be available for purchase.
Echuca Masonic Lodge, located at 426 High St, Echuca, is wheelchair accessible with ramp access and accessible toilets.
