Uniquely formulated and manufactured in Australia, Snailex is designed to withstand challenging weather conditions, prolonging its exposure to target pests.
Fast acting and highly lethal, Snailex has become a preferred choice for Australian farmers.
Now its manufacturers says Snailex has improved again.
In response to the latest industry research and revised recommended integrated pest management (IPM) for better mollusc control, Snailex has undergone a label change improving seedling establishment prospects and paddock performance in pest prone environments.
According to its label rate, Snailex can now be applied at up to 20kg/ha giving around 60 bait points per square metre.
Recent GRDC publication Nail the Snails has researched mollusc management and the critical role the bait station and physical access plays in control.
“Molluscicide baiting relies on snails encountering bait pellets and ingesting a lethal dose of toxin,” the report says.
“The density at which pellets are applied is an important factor in improving efficacy,” it says.
“The rate (kg/ha) of product applied is important. The study highlights the need to estimate the pest population prior to control in order to ensure enough active ingredient is applied for the given snail population.
“We consider rates fewer than 30 pellets per square metre should be avoided. For many field situations nearer 50 baits per square metre should be the target.”
