Wanting to do more, the pair came up with a simple idea — create another way for the wider community to contribute, by hosting a breakfast where locals could support the cause simply by buying a bite to eat.
This Easter Saturday, Con will be joined by four of his Murchison Men’s Shed mates, firing up a trusty barbecue in the main street car park near the Heritage Centre in Murchison.
All funds raised will be donated to BlazeAid, going directly towards supporting those impacted by the Longwood and district fires in February.
“My wife and I knew a family that were affected by the fires, and we just wanted to help,” Con said.
“These towns are also our neighbours and if you can help the wider community, we think it’s important to try and do that.”
The Murchison Men’s Shed is donating the bread, bacon and eggs — along with its members’ time — to make the fundraiser possible.
Bacon and egg sandwiches will be available for $5.50 each from around 7am until sold out, likely by 10am.
King Billie Coffee will be set up alongside the barbecue, serving coffee, tea and other hot drinks.
“Come down and say hi, grab a yummy breakfast and know by doing this you’re helping others in need, which is a really satisfying feeling,” he said.
“We will also have EFT available and a donation tin if anyone would like to make a direct contribution.”
