Foodshare is not-for-profit organisation that rescues food and distributes it to emergency relief agencies, schools, neighbourhood houses, community meal programs and faith organisations.
Shepparton Foodshare executive officer Dee Healey said fuelling Foodshare’s fleet was essential in delivering food to those in need throughout the community.
“Fuel is essential, absolutely critical for what we do,” she said.
“Keeping our truck and two vans on the road is vital to our work.”
This year’s donation was largely funded through the sixth annual Stuart Davidson Memorial Charity Golf Day in March, with additional support from a Rotary District grant and other fundraising activities.
Mooroopna Rotary golf committee member Kelvin Rogash said the event honoured former club member Stuart Davidson, who played a key role in establishing the club’s support for Foodshare.
“Over the last six years, the golf days have raised over $30,000 for Foodshare,” Mr Rogash said.
“That means the trucks can keep running.”
Mr Rogash said the knock-on effect Foodshare had in the community made it a particularly good cause for the club to support.
“You help one, and that in turn helps a whole lot of others in the process,” he said.
Rotary golf committee member Graeme Wood added that Rotary was proud to help deliver Foodshare support locally.
“Our club aims to help the community, and this is one of the best ways to do that,” Mr Wood said.
