The new release is a story about fashion, friendship, the beauty of second-hand and the power of second chances.
Set in Sydney’s harbourside suburb of Mosman, the book revolves around a secondhand dress shop — the clothes there, and the women that wear them.
At the heart of the story is Daphne, who works at the Frock Shop and understands that clothes can serve as a form of armour.
Her story unfolds alongside those of Adelaide, an old friend; Christina, an actress returning home from Hollywood; Lucy, a schoolgirl searching for an escape; and Margot, who is struggling to find her purpose.
Ms Green said she hoped to capture realistic female characters in The Frock Shop while spotlighting the power of fashion.
“Every single day, we all get dressed. Whether we are conscious of it or not, clothes are a hugely important part of our lives,” she said.
She added that her work strived to balance uplifting storytelling with more serious themes.
Ms Green said it was “reflective of how women manage their lives: they can have something heartbreaking happen to them and still make their kids’ lunches and call their best friend to check on her”.
The Frock Shop is Ms Green’s eighth novel, with her previous bestselling books including The Bellbird River Country Choir and Weekends with the Sunshine Gardening Society.
