A man was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital after a two-vehicle collision in Tallarook.

The incident occurred on Friday, May 9 at 7.59am, and led to the extended closure of all northbound lanes of the Hume Fwy at Tallarook, between Upper Goulburn Rd and Main Rd.

Police said a driver travelling northbound pulled over due to a punctured tyre on the southern end of the Hume Fwy bridge leading into Tallarook.

The vehicle was stationary when another vehicle collided with its rear, police said.

Both drivers were injured in the collision.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said a man in his 60s, who was the driver of the stationary vehicle, was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition after being treated for upper body injuries.

The other driver, a man in his 40s, was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital by road in a stable condition after being treated for upper body injuries.

The scene was attended by CFA, Ambulance Victoria, SES and police.
