Making local streets safer in Shepparton

Shepparton North's streets are getting a $1.9 million safety makeover.

The Victorian Government has announced a $1.9 million investment to improve road safety in Shepparton North, focusing on streets near local schools with high pedestrian traffic.

In partnership with the Transport Accident Commission and Greater Shepparton City Council, the project will deliver significant infrastructure upgrades, including two compact roundabouts on Rea St at its intersections with Maude and Clive Streets.

The package includes new speed humps on Maude St, Orr St, Rea St, Clive St and Dunrobin St.

Three raised pedestrian crossings will be constructed on Orr St, Harold St and Rea St, with an additional crossing planned for Marungi St.

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Cr Shane Sali welcomed the initiative, saying, “This funding will support vital upgrades on some of Shepparton's busiest local streets which are home to several large schools – it is a significant investment in the safety and wellbeing of our residents.”

The project is part of the $210 million Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, which aims to improve safety on council-managed roads across Victoria by June 2027.

These local roads, which make up 87 per cent of Victoria's road network, account for about 40 per cent of road trauma each year.

Greater Shepparton City Council will manage the implementation of these upgrades and communicate with residents about construction timelines and traffic disruptions.

We're proud to be working with Greater Shepparton City Council to deliver these vital safety improvements and keep locals safe,” said Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne.
