From Monday, May 16, to Friday, May 20, the national youth broadcaster is packing up and hitting the road in its very first Triple J takeover, making Shepparton its first stop.
Triple J content director Laura McAuliffe said the takeover was a chance to showcase the city to the rest of the country,
“Shepparton, on Yorta Yorta country, is a place absolutely booming with music lovers, bright young minds and with a rich Indigenous history,” she said.
To kick things off there will be a live recording of Zan Rowe’s Take 5 podcast, featuring Shepparton music royalty, Yorta Yorta artist Briggs.
Followed the next night by a live recording of Hobba & Hing and Jess Perkins’ storytelling podcast Simply the Jest, welcoming comedians Danielle Walker and Tim Hewitt onboard.
Simply the Jest is also after Shepp’s most chaotic and entertaining story — there’s no time like the present to start hoarding localised tales.
As a send-off, Shepparton’s Terminus Hotel is being taken over in true party style with live DJ sets from Mashd & Kutcher, Kinder and Triple J’s Bryce & Ebony, Bridget Hustwaite and Jade Zoe.
In partnering with ABC Heywire’s Takeover, young Shepparton locals will have their stories about life in the region shared, with a select few taking part in the Takeover Shepparton Youth Summit.
Students at Greater Shepparton Secondary College will also score a visit from the Triple J Unearthed team, who will share their expertise through songwriting workshops, alongside music rights management organisation APRA AMCOS.
