Lunch brings Legacy widows and students together

Students from St Augustine’s College and Kyabram P-12 College recently met with Kyabram Legacy members and widows, ahead of the school’s Lone Pine ceremonies.

Legacy, an organisation that provides support to veterans’ widows, used the luncheon to speak with St Augustine's College captains Charli Miller and Dylan Priest, along with Kyabram P-12 College Lone Pine ambassadors Eliza Snell and Nate Damon, about the significance of the ceremonies.

Hosted at the Kyabram Club, the school leaders mingled with Legacy members and widows over lunch, giving the young leaders a valuable opportunity to better understand the organisation’s role in supporting veteran families.

“We have a tremendous rapport with the school,” Legacy’s Don Cook said.

“We want that connection just to keep the message rolling along, that there is cost, when they send troops off everywhere, there’s a cost after it.”

The two Lone Pine ceremonies will take place during Legacy Week in front of each college's Aleppo pine, honouring the courage and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand troops at the Battle of Lone Pine during the Gallipoli campaign.

The luncheon brought together around 30 Legacy widows, members, school staff and students, who shared stories and strengthened the community bonds that keep the memory of service and sacrifice alive for future generations.
