It was 60 years ago, on a warm and windy October afternoon, when Ken and June Dyer said “I do” at the Ascot Vale Presbyterian Church in Moonee Ponds.

They’d never imagined their whirlwind romance would blossom into a lifetime of love, laughter, and family.
Last week, the Yarrawonga couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, a milestone few achieve and one they cherished with family by their side.
Their love story began at a 10-pin bowling alley in Essendon, where a young June caught Ken’s eye.
“I was immediately attracted to June,” Ken recalled.
“She’s attractive with a wonderful outgoing personality.”
June was just 17 when they became a couple and 19 when they became engaged.
“I fell for Ken because of his wonderful, caring, considerate nature; we just clicked,” June said.
“The success of our marriage is being together, sharing everything, and supporting each other.”
They married on October 16, 1965, at 4pm with the ceremony led by Reverend North and Reverend Matters, a close family friend from Portland.
Afterwards, about 60–80 guests attended a wedding breakfast at the Gordon Masonic Hall, followed by a reception with 140 guests.

June fondly recalled her father keeping her calm in the limousine with jokes, before stopping at the TAB where she worked, where her customers had gathered to wish her luck.
A motorcycle policeman even escorted June and her father to the church, a memory she treasures.
The couple began life in Moonee Ponds, buying their first home in Frankston East in 1967, then building in Langwarrin, before moving to Winchelsea in 1985, where together they ran a hardware and farm supply business for five years.
Since 2009, they have lived in Yarrawonga, creating a warm and happy home surrounded by family and friends.
Ken and June have one daughter, Joanne, and three adult grandchildren.
To mark their diamond anniversary, Ken and June have received warm congratulations from King Charles and Queen Camilla, the Governor-General, and their local MP.
They celebrated with lunch at the Yarrawonga Hotel on the day of their anniversary with family, and on Saturday with another special lunch aboard the Cumberoona paddle steamer with their grandchildren.
A truly fitting tribute to 60 years of love, laughter, and lifelong partnership.
