Ms Wilson was first elected to parliament at the 2022 election as the Member for Kew.
She becomes the third leader of the Liberals in just 12 months with John Pesutto ousted after a two-year term on December 27, 2024 by former police officer Brad Battin who preceded Ms Wilson for just short of 11 months.
On November 17 a cross-factional delegation of Liberal MPs informed Liberal leader Brad Battin that he had lost the support of the party room with members of the party's caucus voting 19 to 13 to allow the spill, after which Ms Wilson was elected unopposed.
Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy believes Ms Wilson is a great leader and will make an outstanding Premier of Victoria.
“Like Brad Battin whom she succeeds, her focus is on removing this out of touch, financially irresponsible Allan Labor Government,” Mr McCurdy said.
“Jess will attract a wider demographic, her energy will impress, and she will truly shine as she will govern for every Victorian.
“Whether you’re in metropolitan Melbourne or regional Victoria, she will stand with and support our communities and regions.
“The Liberal Party has been strengthening its team, and together with The Nationals we offer a viable, financially responsible and compassionate leadership for Victoria.
“We will tackle crime head-on and properly fund our health system to get the state back on track.
“Victorians know we need a change. After years of higher taxes and waste under the Allan Labor Government, it’s time for a new direction.
“Jess brings proven financial responsibility and a clear plan to address rising crime, ready to lead Victoria forward.”
Member for Benambra Bill Tilley also said she will make a great leader and will inform the public that what the Coalition has on offer is the better alternative.
“I am sure she will deliver to Victorians the message that this government is a train wreck and the only way for living standards to improve in Victoria is for the public to be fully informed of the alternative,” Mr Tilley said.
“She will be delivering the same message, I just hope that the media will now fully report it.
“Hopefully with her at the helm there will be better cut through in the media. The coalition has some great policies and strategies to get Victoria back on track.
“Some being to improve the budget so that basic needs such as housing affordability health care, safe roads, and a robust education system are met.
“This state is not broke, the money is just being absolutely wasted.
“This state is not broke, the money is just being absolutely wasted.
“I think it’s fantastic that Jess is the first female leader, having said that gender is irrelevant – she will be outstanding in the role.
“The opposition is not “unstable” – change of leadership is about making sure we can get the full message across from the party room as the people’s representative in opposition.
“A change of leadership comes from who the media will listen to, not who the party room will.”
The next Victorian state election will be in one year, on November, 28 2026.
