On display will be the brigade’s CAFS truck and the HAZMAT vehicle.
A CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System) truck is a specialised fire truck equipped with a system that uses compressed air to create foam.
This foam, when mixed with water and applied to fires, offers enhanced firefighting capabilities, including greater fire knock-down, reduced smoke, and more efficient water use.
A HAZMAT truck, or hazardous materials truck, is a specialised vehicle equipped to handle incidents involving dangerous materials.
These vehicles transport support equipment, including decontamination equipment and monitoring tools, to respond to events like chemical spills, gas leaks, or situations involving hazardous materials like asbestos or radioactive waste.
There will be a barbecue, gift bags and everyone will get a chance to spray the fire hose.
Brigade Captain Martin Smith said firefighters will also be on hand to answer any questions about fire protection.
“We will have our appliances out, so people can see what we do.
“People in the community can also ask us about home fire safety, as well as information on the smoke alarms in homes.”
Anyone interested in becoming a firefighter is also welcome, with the brigade actively recruiting for on-call firefighters now.
The open day begins at 10am at the fire station in George St, and will finish up about 2pm.
