The community event will be held at Hopwood Gardens in Echuca on Friday, May 16, from 10.30am to 11.30am.
The event will include a flag-raising ceremony and speeches to celebrate the day from community members with lived experiences.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Daniel Mackrell welcomed everyone to Hopwood Gardens to celebrate the power of love and acceptance.
“This year’s theme is ‘the power of communities’, which highlights the strength and resilience that comes from the collective solidarity of both the LGBTQIA+ community and allies,’’ he said.
“So whether you’re part of the LGBTQIA+ community or an ally, everyone is welcome to attend and show their support for inclusion and stand against LGBTQIA+ discrimination, not just in our local area, but everywhere.’’
In support of IDAHOBIT, council will raise pride flags in the central business district and in front of the council offices in Echuca, as well as illuminating the front of the building with rainbow colours on the evenings of May 16 and 17.
‘’This day reminds us that every person should be respected and valued without judgment,’’ Cr Mackrell said.
‘’Discrimination has no place in our community. We must all work together to ensure everyone can live without fear of persecution or violence.
‘’IDAHOBIT is an opportunity for us to reflect on the challenges that remain and to renew our commitment to fighting discrimination in all its forms.’’
