Local steering groups have contributed their knowledge and experience to the draft local emergency action plans, which were developed through the LEAPing into Safer Communities project.

The wider community is now invited to give feedback on the drafts to ensure they reflect local knowledge, priorities and community capabilities before finalisation.

Greater Shepparton City Council emergency management and resilience manager Belinda Conna encouraged the community to view the plans and provide feedback.

City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Geoff Akers said local knowledge played a vital role in emergency preparedness and community resilience.

“The people who live, work and volunteer in these communities are best placed to identify local risks and opportunities for preparedness,” Cr Akers said.

Anyone who lives, works, volunteers or owns property in Merrigum, Dookie and Toolamba and district is encouraged to participate.

Consultation is open until Friday, November 6.
