For almost 30 years the Red Hat Society has celebrated fun, laughter and friendship, and being “fabulously, wonderfully yourself”. Now they are keen to start a Yarrawonga chapter.
Watch out Yarrawonga, the Merry Murray Madams are in town, bringing colour, laughter, and a little bit of sparkle.

The group of friends will gather at the Yarrawonga Hotel on Thursday for lunch and to meet local women as they plan a new Red Hat group in the Yarrawonga/Mulwala area.
Dressed in their signature purple outfits and red hats, these fabulous ladies live by one motto: Growing Old Disgracefully!
Queen Helen, the current matriarch of the Merry Murray Madams, described the group as just women at a certain age who love to have fun; a celebration of friendship, laughter, and the joy of being fabulously, wonderfully yourself.
“We wear our purple with red hats, add a bit of bling if we like, and enjoy ourselves, whether it’s lunches, coffee, movies, weekends away, you name it,” she said.
“The gatherings are only limited by our imagination.
“Red Hatting is a perfect way to meet people, share laughs, and add a little sparkle to your week.”
The signature purple and red of the Red Hatters when they get together.
The Red Hat movement began in the United States, inspired by a whimsical poem by Jenny Joseph.
Women over 50 come together to laugh, dress up, and celebrate life in style and in Australia, it’s been spreading joy, friendship, and fabulous fun for 25 years.
For the Merry Murray Madams, every meeting is a party where they share stories, giggles, and plenty of sparkle.
And when they hit interstate conventions, the fun goes into overdrive with hundreds of women in purple and red, laughing, dancing, and celebrating life together - a dazzling sea of hats and smiles.
Members give each other playful royal titles and nicknames, and they embrace the silly, the glamorous, and the unexpected.
Now the Madams are eager to meet local women who might like to join a new Yarrawonga/Mulwala chapter.
Next Thursday’s lunch is booked, but curious locals can chat with the group or grab a contact card on the day.
