A number of trees will be removed from Goulburn Valley Water’s Mooroopna Wastewater Management Facility.
A stretch of Yates gum trees that are not native to the area will be removed, after becoming a safety concern at the facility.
The trees were planted decades ago by GVW and have reached the end of their life. They are dropping limbs, which poses a safety risk to those on the site.
Works to remove the trees will begin in late March, with the community advised they may see harvesting works along Echuca Rd to the north of Mooroopna, as workers harvest the Yates gum trees and replace them with shrubs and more appropriate trees.
GVW managing director Steve Capewell said the removal of the trees was in line with the company’s protocols to protect both workers and the community.
“We are regularly assessing the condition of trees on our land, and these Yates gums present a potential danger to staff and infrastructure due to continually dropping limbs,” he said.
“The timing of this tree removal has come just as we are completing a tree harvest project at our Elderslie Farm site in north Shepparton.”
Timber from the Mooroopna tree harvesting will be available in the future as firewood.
