Greater Shepparton’s $100K boost thanks to Fairleys IGA

Fairleys SUPA IGA has injected $100,000 into Greater Shepparton community groups, clubs and schools.

Through the supermarket’s rewards program, customers can assign their points to the community cause they wish to support.

Fairleys SUPA IGA owner and managing director Michael Lorenz said this year’s contribution was the culmination of two financial years.

It comes after two and a half difficult years with COVID-19 for both Mr Lorenz as a business owner, and all the clubs being limited in their ability to fundraise.

District 22 CFA Commander Rohan Taylor said their $2500 boost could be used to upgrade equipment or enhance station facilities.

“It supports our volunteer brigades and because the donation was to the City of Greater Shepparton fire brigades group means it's shared amongst many brigades, not just one,” he said.

Verney Rd School received $4000 and teacher Lisa Warren said the funds would help support the school in running a variety of programs.

GV Hospice received $7000 during a difficult week where it had two vehicles stolen.

Executive manager Wendy Ross said the donation would go towards supporting the hospice’s work looking after people suffering life-limiting illnesses in the community.

“All our donations help to provide our after-hours service to care for people in their home,” she said.
