Shepparton will host a new beer and barbecue festival this month in one of its first large-scale events since the COVID-19 pandemic began nearly 12 months ago.
Organised by the Shepparton Swans Football Netball Club and a host of brewers across the region, the Shepparton Brew & BBQ Fest will play host to 10 brewers of beer, gin and cider as well as several food stalls on March 20.
Swans president Jarrod Sutherland said it was exciting to be able to hold a large-scale event after months of coronavirus restrictions.
The event will go ahead with a 1000-person cap on attendees, which has changed the scope of the festival slightly.
“We've had people asking about kids attending, in an ideal scenario it would be, but numbers are limited so we've made it 18 plus,” he said.
He said next year there was a bigger chance of having jumping castles or children's entertainment to make a family-friendly event, but the restriction on numbers forced organisers’ hands.
“We'd planned to do it last year but COVID obviously put plans back,” Mr Sutherland said.
“Hopefully now we're on the other side of COVID and can make it an annual event.”
Mr Sutherland said he hoped people came along for a "chilled afternoon", with live music also on the cards, as well as events such as sack races and keg-throwing competitions.
Tickets are $50, with additional options to reserve a table. Head to www.sheppbrewandbbqfest.com.au for more information or to book tickets.
