CCLLEN received funding from the Federal Department of Employment and Workplace Relations to deliver industry tours for Year 11 and Year 12 students from several different secondary schools within the district.
Community Vibe was contracted to organise the tours on behalf of CCLLEN and 21 students from Echuca Secondary College and Rochester Secondary College were involved in the Kyabram tour.
The aim of the industry tours was to actively engage students in a range of industry immersion experiences, building their knowledge of the world of work and future workforce skill requirements.
Students were provided with hands-on, real world experience of the health industry and the qualifications and pathway options needed to get there.
The students were able to choose from a range of industries, including engineering, early childhood education and care, hospitality, building and construction, agriculture, and healthcare.
During the Kyabram visit they were given an introduction to KDHS, its history, size and catchment area, as well as a background of all nursing and allied health areas.
They were also given a list of non-clinical pathways they could take, such as opportunities with the environmental, kitchen or administration teams.
The students were then split into two groups, one gaining a further insight into nursing and the other into allied health services, depending on their interests.
After the tour, they were given a brief overview of what’s involved in an allied health or nursing role and conducted some interactive activities.
The nursing staff were shown how to use the resuscitation equipment, including defibrillator, and were able to experience giving CPR on the resuscitation mannequin.
Students also attended Echuca Regional Health and Echuca Community Living and Respite services for tours.
