Free shuttle buses will run from Rochester Railway Station to the Echuca Racecourse from 11am today, departing from the railway station. Entry to the races is free and the buses will return from 4.30pm onward to Rochester.
In Echuca and Moama, the first pick up is at 11am and will be running continually.
The return shuttles will start about 3.30pm, shortly after the scheduled finish of the Melbourne Cup.
Echuca Racing Club is encouraging you to take the bus or get dropped off, as there will be limited parking at the racecourse because of the wet surrounds.
If you are in Rochester, email echraces@countryracing.com.au before noon today to let the Echuca Racing Club know of your interest, so it can co-ordinate numbers.
Echuca Racing Club manager Garry Armstrong said the change to the event was a way to thank the district for their patience and understanding.
“The community spirit has been absolutely astounding the past couple of weeks, everyone has worked tirelessly, and all of us at ERC are proud to be a part of such an amazing community,” Mr Armstrong said.
The meeting is highlighted by the other two-mile race run in Victoria on Melbourne Cup Day, the $27,000 Northern Hire Group Echuca Benchmark 64 Handicap (3200m), which doubles as a qualifier for the Jericho Cup.
The first race is timed to jump at 12.16pm and the last at 5.35pm.
