Thanks for being a hero

Batman and Superman were nowhere in sight but there were plenty of heroes on show at Kyabram P-12 College recently.
The school’s Grade 3 and 4 students hosted a morning tea to thank local heroes for their work in the community.
The students have been studying what makes a hero and were given the opportunity to nominate someone they thought was a local hero.
There were representatives from all areas of the community including the SES, CFA, lifeguards, nurses and vets.
Kyabram P-12 teacher Breanna Hawken said it was important to honour the work that was happening in the community.

It wasn’t pretty, but it was a perfect end
The Kyabram Bombers didn’t win pretty but they won.
A season brimful of positives with no losses didn’t quite deliver the performance anticipated by the unstoppable Kyabram machine on GVFL grand final day.
But that’s being a little unfair to Rochester, which proved a worthy rival in the season decider.
The fact is though, the Tigers still came up short like every other side has against the Bombers this season.
Rochester was gallant but Kyabram is still the premier.

Kyabram Fauna Park dingo’s progeny
At present Mum couldn’t care less about her six newborn alpine dingo pups ― the newest additions to the Kyabram Fauna Park’s canine population.
According to fauna park curator of animals Diane Halse, Dad has been the one crooning over the four-week-old infants, having his ears nipped, and his face licked while Mum’s been cooling her heels in the comfort of anonymity.
It’s a different story from the beginning when mum ― Pundi ― gave birth after a gestation period of nine weeks and allowed no-one ― not even Dad ― a look-in.
The pups are an integral part of the park’s ongoing breeding program of the alpine dingo. In the past 20 years, approximately 30 dingos have been spawned at the park, with this litter, according to Diane, the park’s greatest success story in recent memory.

Talented golfers to represent GV
Four young Kyabram golfers will line up in the Goulburn Association’s junior representative team at Heathcote next month to contest the Victorian inter-regional junior championships.
The talented golfers ― Luke Nagle, Michael D’Augello, David James and Matt Jean ― who all play at Valley View Golf Club, have represented the Goulburn Valley previously.
The boys will team with nine other junior golfers from around the Goulburn Valley who are hopeful of emulating their U18 state championship win of three years ago.
The regional competition at Heathcote on September 14 and 15 will be decided on a stroke aggregate from the best nine scores, although there are individual competitions run in conjunction with the team championship.

It’s Library Week!
This week we have the audio visual display running in Kyabram Library ― it has attracted a lot of interest and a lot of favourable comment.
The programs on display are of great interest to everyone, from the youngest to the oldest of borrowers, and cover a wide variety of topics, from marine life on the Great Barrier Reef to living conditions in Jakarta, capital of our nearest Asian neighbour Indonesia.
There has been great interest shown by the schools and I have already taken them to Dawes Rd, Haslem St and Kyvalley schools, where the interest shown by the children was most encouraging.
At this point I would like to thank Hanimex Australia for the loan of the projector and tape recorder, AVEC for the loan of the slides and tapes and Mr Tony Cole for the loan of a screen and slide carousel, which has made the whole presentation much easier.

President to step down?
Bomber president Harry Castles wants to quit Kyabram Football Club’s No 1 administrative spot to help teach junior players in the area skills of the game.
Castles is serious, too. The news will come as a surprise to many supporters who saw the former Kyabram player take the club reins last year and lead the Bombers to their first flag for 17 years.
“Yes, I want to get out if it is at all possible,” Castles said this week.
“But I will have to be happy about who my successor would be before I stand down.”
Castles said he would still be prepared to stand for the committee and assist the club all he could.
