City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Kim O’Keeffe said the festival was a real highlight for Shepparton and she looked forward to seeing it return.
“St Georges Road Food Festival is one of Greater Shepparton’s favourite street dining events which celebrates our multicultural and diverse communities who shape our region. The event attracts many locals and visitors looking to experience the tastes of the world on a plate and we are very excited to see its return,” she said.
From cultural music performances to mouth-watering international cooking, this year’s festival will be showcasing 13 different cultures.
There will also be a range of activities for all ages such as salsa dancing, fabric painting and language classes.
Cr O’Keeffe said the festival was a great way to celebrate and showcase Shepparton’s multicultural community.
“With more than 13 per cent of our population born overseas, more than 50 languages spoken in our area and 3.4 per cent of our community comprising of Indigenous people, it is important we celebrate and gain an understanding of the different backgrounds and cultures that reside here within Greater Shepparton, and make our community so special and unique,” she said.
“This year the festival will showcase 13 different cultures — Sri Lankan, Maori, Irish, Columbian, Chilean, Filipino, Malaysian, Afghan, Indian, Malayalee, Nepalese, Hong Kongese and Vietnamese.”
Performances from the Shepparton Malayalee Association, Amuru Tribe and Papare Band will also be showcased this year, among others.
The festival will be held this Saturday, January 29 from 5pm to 9pm in St Georges Rd, Shepparton, between Hayes and Swallow Sts.
All attending the festival are required to be double-vaccinated and check-in before entering.
