Member for Northern Victoria State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes announced that two local clubs were successful in applying for grants to ensure they remain robust and vibrant community organisations for years to come.
Shepparton’s Burnanga Indigenous Fishing Club has been awarded $10,000 for the purchase of IT, printing and software equipment.
Nathalia Angling Club has been awarded $10,000 to upgrade the clubroom flooring.
“We want to support the wonderful work of angling clubs like Burnanga and Nathalia, which are often the first port of call for newcomers to the pastime and home to local experts who have decades of experience to share about fishing in our region,” Ms Symes said.
“Recreational fishing in Victoria is in great shape thanks to more fish stocking than other Australian states and territories combined, the removal of commercial net-fishing and Little Angler Kits for Grade 5 students in Victorian schools to help them catch a new hobby.”
Outdoor Recreation Minister Steve Dimopoulos announced the first 20 grants awarded to local clubs through the Labor Government’s Stronger Fishing Clubs Grant Program, with the $1.2 million investment funded by the reinvestment of fishing licence fees.
The program is part of the government’s $96 million investment to improve fishing, boating, piers and aquaculture for communities across the state.
Applications for the second round of grants will be available in 2024.
