The event was organised by Janelle Russell from Finley’s Essential Hair.
She said it was originally planned simply as a way to bring people together, but came to be about much more.
“I just wanted to get a good crowd along to celebrate New Year’s,” she said.
“The raising money aspect came about after we were able to cover costs.”
More than 105 people attended the indoor event, which featured a band and catered food.
For Ms Russell, choosing where the proceeds should go was deeply personal.
“I’ve lost quite a few friends to suicide, and all the help the Collaborative gives to the town; it’s something that’s close to my heart.”
The funds were donated to the Southern Riverina Wellbeing Collaborative, which works to improve access to mental health and suicide prevention services in Finley and surrounding communities.
Organiser Michelle Smith said the contribution will make a real difference.
“Funds go to getting the message out there on mental health, and help advocate on behalf of the community.”
