Currently, light-vehicle registration costs up to $930.70 per year but from June 1, eligible vehicle owners can apply for 20per cent off through Services Victoria.
Light vehicles include cars, utes and anything under 4.5 tonnes.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan said although the rebate would not fix everything, it was something she could do to take pressures off families.
“As premier, I’m determined to use government to help Victorians who are under pressure,” Ms Allan said.
“Like cheaper PT, it wont fix everything, but it’s immediate action I can take to make a difference.”
The rebate will refund motorists back 20 per cent of their registration payment for 2025/26, with the ability to claim rebates for up to two vehicles in each person’s name.
Victorians will have two months to claim their rebates, with applications closing on July 31.
