The plan includes 18 high-priority developments including constructing new change rooms for football and netball use on the northern side of the main oval.
The draft plan acknowledges that while well maintained, much of the infrastructure is ageing and in need of an upgrade. Many toilets and change facilities no longer meet the requirements for disability access, and the growth in female participation requires appropriate change facilities.
A combined change, toilet and kiosk building is also proposed to service the multi-purpose fields and John Gray Oval.
The Mooroopna area has a population of approximately 8144, which is expected to increase by around 22 per cent by 2036, and demand for facilities is expected to grow.
A previous master plan developed in 2008 identified 29 key development works but only two — provision of new netball courts and a new slip road entrance — have been completed, while two more were partially delivered.
Cr Shane Sali told the July meeting the earlier plan was clearly outdated and needed a new focus.
“It needs to be updated to ensure council has strong direction on what the community and most importantly the user groups require moving forward,” he said.
Deputy Mayor Rob Priestly encouraged residents and users of the facilities to have their say during the six-week consultation period.
“This is a big area of land in one of the fastest growing areas, so strategically long term this needs to be a really good outcome,” he said.
“The Mooroopna Recreation Reserve has some ageing facilities, so it is time to bring clubs, community and council together to forge a plan for the future.”
