Centre manager Melanie Domaschenz said hundreds of homeless people had been displaced from their tents around Victoria Park Lake and the Goulburn River by recent flooding and now had nowhere to go.
The centre is accepting donations of doonas, sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, tents and men’s clothing – but anything else that may be useful would be appreciated.
The centre’s main focus right now is to collect items for people who are sleeping rough.
“They’re living in a state of emergency all the time,” Ms Domaschenz said.
“We are just constantly collecting supplies so that we can help them with something warm to sleep with.”
The centre also offers free clothing, food relief, showers, a washer and a dryer that anyone is welcome to use.
The centre encourages anyone facing challenges to come in and speak to staff.
“If anyone is in crisis or they need help, come and see us,” Ms Domaschenz said.
The centre requests that if you have a blanket, pillow or old clothes you no longer reach for, spare a moment and donate them for someone else in need.
And if you’re in need of supplies, items can be collected from the South Shepparton Community Centre on Archer St in Shepparton.
