We would like to thank Edward River Council on their decision to retain the plane trees on End St.
It demonstrates their ability to engage with public concerns, and willingness to work with community groups.
The use of a senior consulting arborist from independent authority Homewood Consulting sets a strong precedent for future decision making.
The report is one of excellence, demonstrating expertise of measurement and assessments.
It now provides very considered advice for the ERC's prudent management of our natural amenity and existing trees.
Mr Pilliner's findings were established from extensive research about contested histories.
The report covered community wellbeing; natural and built amenity; and habitat.
This will enable the ERC to conduct better conservation practices for trees, and is very much welcomed.
SHADE and community, however, were surprised to find that five trees had been assessed and reported on, given the community's understanding that only the plane trees were under review.
The report also acknowledged the ERC's very good work already undertaken in conserving the George St plane tree.
Well done to all those involved in conducting such thorough work.
This is a wonderful outcome for the retention of the shade canopy.
We wish to acknowledge and thank the 1020+ community members who stood up to support the retention of these significant trees within the heritage precinct of the CBD by signing our petition.
SHADE is dedicated to engaging further with the community and council, to conserve and expand the shade tree amenity that we have.
We look forward to working with council on the development of the new Street Tree Policy, for Deniliquin and its surrounding villages.
The retention of shade trees, and the development of a new tree policy, will be a great 'win-win' for the council and the community.
Yours etc.
