One of only 13 Australians to receive the prestigious award, the esteemed accolade recognises Marc's contribution to the world of winemaking.
“It was definitely a wonderful surprise to receive such a prestigious recognition,” Mr Scalzo said.
“To be named among the top 100 master winemakers is truly an honour and testament to the dedication and passion we put into crafting exceptional wines at De Bortoli.”
The award was received specifically for Mr Scalzo’s 2022 De Bortoli Rosé Rosé, which clinched the Master Medal in The Drinks Business 2023 Global Rosé Masters.
In a category overwhelmingly dominated by many of Europe’s most celebrated producers, the De Bortoli Rosé Rosé was the only Australian Rosé to receive the ultimate accolade.
“I feel incredibly proud and humbled by this achievement,” Mr Scalzo said.
“It's a recognition not just of my own efforts, but of the entire team at De Bortoli who work tirelessly to produce wines of the highest quality.
“It's also a validation of our winemaking philosophy and commitment to excellence.
“This accolade motivates us to continue pushing the boundaries and striving for even greater heights in winemaking.”
The Top 100 Master Winemakers of the Year 2024, curated by The Drinks Business, are chosen from wines that attained a Masters medal in the Global Masters tasting series, representing the highest recognition the organisation bestows.
Mr Scalzo, known for his respectful, balanced, and lively winemaking approach, has been an integral part of the De Bortoli Wines family, infusing his passion and expertise into every vintage.
As the 2024 vintage unfolds, Marc and the De Bortoli team eagerly anticipate another exceptional expression of Rosé Rosé, which marks the seventh iteration of this celebrated wine.
“Every vintage is different but the current 2024 vintage is looking promising.
“We have picked and pressed the grapes for Rosé Rosé and the wines are now finishing fermentation.
“The 2024 vintage looks strong at this stage.
“We're excited to continue pushing the boundaries and delivering wines that captivate the senses and delights wine lovers everywhere,” Mr Scalzo concluded.
