Council is hopeful of confirming a new date and will share the rescheduled details as soon as they are available.
A one-off friendly cricket match will be staged between Greater Shepparton’s multicultural communities and local emergency service personnel as part of Emergency Services Gala Day.
The contest forms part of a free community event, slated to take place on Sunday, June 14 at Shepparton’s Victory Park, with the public invited to take part in the festivities.
Alongside the action on the ground, a range of family-friendly activities and entertainment will form part of the day, including free cricket and AFL workshops for children.
In addition, emergency service displays consisting of vital preparedness information are scheduled to take place, as well as games and giveaways, a free sausage sizzle, and live half-time entertainment from a Sri Lankan papare band.
The main cricket match will begin at 11am, following the junior workshops from 10am to 11am, with half-time entertainment to be provided during the match.
The gala day aims to promote emergency preparedness awareness while celebrating the strength, diversity and resilience of the Greater Shepparton community.
The event follows the success of similar community initiatives, including the Community Cup organised by the Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District, which raised funds for the Blue Ribbon Foundation.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said the event was a fantastic opportunity to bring the community together and recognise the important role of local emergency services.
“The Emergency Services Gala Day is a great way to connect our diverse community with the dedicated local emergency service agencies who support us,” he said.
“We also recognise Thank a First Responder Day on Wednesday, June 10, and this event is a great opportunity to show appreciation for the people who provide strength and support to our community when it matters most.”
