According to the latest NSW Respiratory Surveillance Report, for the week ending June 14, 3,475 people tested positive for COVID-19 in NSW - a 10 per cent increase from the previous week.
Of those, 79 were located in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
This is on top of 87 positive cases being recorded a week earlier, and brings the total number of reported cases in the MLHD to 1,323 since January 1.
The upswing in COVID-19 has come at the same time as influenza is on the rise and at moderate levels in NSW.
Across NSW there were 3729 new detections of influenza in the week ended June 14, with 172 of those in the MLHD district.
NSW Health believes Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) may have peaked, but it is still relatively high with 2708 NSW detections in the week to June 14, and 80 in MLHD.
This was an increase from 52 detections in the MLHD a week earlier.
Health Protection NSW executive director Dr Jeremy McAnulty said prevention methods are available to community members.
“While most people have already received their primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations, we're urging people, especially those aged 65 and over, to get a booster to protect themselves,” he said.
“COVID-19 is a serious illness and can cause hospitalisation and death, especially in people who are older, have other risk factors, or are immunocompromised.
“Health authorities recommend staying home when sick, wearing masks when necessary, avoiding crowded spaces, and maintaining good hygiene practices.”
