Now in its sixth year at Hill Top, the event has already raised more than $25,000 for the Black Dog Institute.
Reporter Kelly Lucas-Carmody caught up with event organiser Glenn Newton to learn more about what makes the day so special.
What inspired the creation of Tatura’s Courier Golf Day?
The Courier Golf Day has been running for about 20 years. I ran it at Merrigum for around 15 years, and for the past six years it’s been held at Hill Top. I started it to give something back to the club.
What fundraising milestones has the event achieved?
This will be my fourth year raising money for the Black Dog Institute. So far, I have raised over $25k for the organisation from this particular event.
How many people usually attend each year?
Between 100 and 144 people.
What can participants and spectators expect from the day?
The day is packed with fun, featuring an on-course barbecue, a drink cart circulating among players and live music on the deck. Paul Vitullo generously donates his time and is well known along the Murray River.
Are there any standout moments or highlights from past events?
Last year, I won an Australia Day award for the Community Event of the Year.
What makes this event so special for the Tatura community?
It gets people to come together. You don’t need to play golf — come down, listen to the music, have a few drinks and laughs, and buy some raffle tickets.
Have you noticed any traditions or favourite aspects that people really look forward to each year?
People love coming together, having some laughs, a bit of banter and just hanging out with each other.
Are there any fun or unusual stories from the day that you could share?
There is always fun and lots of stirring along the way. Come and see for yourself.
How has the event evolved over the years, and what changes might attendees notice this year?
Music will be live on the deck from 3pm; hopefully, the weather will be fine.
If any businesses out there would like to donate a raffle prize, all proceeds go to the Black Dog Institute, raising awareness for people with mental health issues.
