The fun designs certainly turned heads, but they also carried an important message: starting a conversation about mental health can be as simple as saying hello and checking in with the people around us.
The initiative forms part of Council’s broader workplace wellbeing program, which encourages open, everyday conversations about how we’re really doing.
Each shirt includes a QR code linking to a free counselling service offering support to anyone who needs someone to talk to.
By wearing these shirts in such a public setting, Councillors are helping to shine a spotlight on the importance of normalising mental health conversations and reminding the community that “It’s OK not to be OK.”
Birthday celebrations
Our thanks to everyone who commented favourably on the Deniliquin Boat Club 80th birthday feature, in Tuesday’s Pastoral Times.
And best wishes to the club and all the activities it has organised for this weekend.
It will be an exciting day tomorrow, with the CBD boat parade followed by an afternoon of fun and entertainment at the Boat Club.
It’s certain to be a super weekend, and we look forward to bringing you the highlights in Tuesday’s edition of your PT.
Deni Hire was very busy for the clearing sale yesterday.
Deni Hire clearing sale
With the iconic local business Deni Hire being sold last year, the site at 125 Napier St was packed yesterday for the site’s unreserved clearing sale.
Starting from 10am a huge crowd made their way to the business site with many miscellaneous pieces of hire equipment and other items being sold.
Originally founded by John Tainsh, owner Neil Goudie has steered the ship for 20 years, after he purchased the business from Cory Liefting.
The business shifted to its Napier St location in 2012, offering greater convenience in a central location.
With Neil preparing for retirement and new adventures around Australia in his caravan, the business was sold at auction in December.
Roadworks underway on Cemetery Road
Edward River Council has commenced roadworks on Cemetery Road, between Abattoir Road and the Cobb Highway (Ochtertyre Street) intersection.
Works began in the first week of February and are expected to continue through to the end of March, weather permitting. Crews are on site daily from 6am to 6pm.
Council advises motorists to expect minor delays or changed traffic conditions during the upgrade period.
The works are part of ongoing improvements to local road infrastructure, and Council has thanked residents for their patience while the project is completed.
Call out for Mental Health First Aid trainers
Accredited Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trainers are being sought to help deliver face‑to‑face courses across the Edward River Council area over the next 18 to 24 months.
Deni MHAG is inviting expressions of interest from currently accredited Standard and Youth MHFA facilitators as part of a local push to strengthen mental health literacy and encourage early help‑seeking in Deniliquin and surrounding villages. The group says building community skills and confidence is a key priority, particularly in regional areas where access to services can be limited.
Trainers who partner with the program will support a schedule of community‑based sessions aimed at improving understanding of mental health and equipping residents to better recognise and respond to concerns.
Accredited facilitators can request the full EOI details by emailing denimhag@gmail.com
