Greater Shepparton City Council received 759 submissions in response to its intention to sell or gift the airspace above the Maude St, Nixon St, Edward St, Shepparton car park for a social housing development.
Council heard 39 verbal submissions over two days.
Social housing providers Wintringham and BeyondHousing approached the council with a proposal to build a three-level complex above the car park.
The top two floors would house 30 residences while the lower floor would be resident parking.
The ground level would be returned to the council after construction and retained as a public car park.
In a statement Greater Shepparton City Council said the in-person verbal briefings to councillors formed part of that submitter’s submission.
“They assist councillors in understanding the views expressed in submissions of nearby residents and the community regarding the proposal to sell or gift the council-owned car park for future development as social housing.”
Council officers will now prepare a report on the consultation process which will incorporate the content of the submissions.
The report will also include any further analysis and council officers’ response to all concerns raised in submissions and a final recommendation on the proposal.
All submissions and the council report must then be considered by the council at a formal council meeting, the date of which is yet to be determined.
