In total, $1,315,435.32 divided over six contracts was awarded for projects including river bank stabilisation, a nappy waste service, construction of a shared bike and pedestrian path, the design of intersections, management of a caravan park and works on a logistics centre.
The contracts were awarded under the delegation of council’s chief executive, which during the reporting period included both the outgoing Peter Harriott and incoming Fiona Le Gassick.
Contracts worth up to $1 million can be awarded by the chief executive, and those finalised in December and January were noted during council’s meeting on February 27.
“In the first part, there are six contracts awarded under delegation, three of significant value, and it’s very encouraging to see this,” Cr Greg James said during the meeting.
“It’s good to see that we do have some contracts up and running.”
The largest of the contracts awarded during the reporting period and discussed during council’s meeting was worth $313,500.
It was with Innoviv Pty Ltd for management services of the Victoria Park Lake Caravan Park for one year with an option of a second year.
Another of the contracts awarded was for $300,472.59 with CAF Consulting Services Pty Ltd to design intersections within the Tatura growth area north, north-east and east of the town so they can be costed.
Another of the larger contracts awarded was for $271,691.01 with Apex Earthworks Pty Ltd for stabilisation of the Goulburn River bank along Tom Collins Dve near Aquamoves in Shepparton.
Spiire Australia Pty Ltd has been granted a $175,593.00 contract for the design of works relating to the development of the GV Link Freight Logistics Centre near Mooroopna.
A $144,178.32 contract has been awarded to Mawson Constructions Pty Ltd to construct the shared Ganges bicycle-foot path at Seven Creeks Reserve in Kialla.
Finally, a contract has been approved for Kelland Environmental Technology Pty Ltd, trading as DiaperRecycle, to the value of $110,000.
That contract is for the processing and recycling of collected disposable nappy and incontinence product waste from Greater Shepparton residents.
No submissions were received for a contract to build a fence at the Tatura Park Outdoor Sand Arena, so council officers will review the scope of those works and look to deliver the project in the coming months.
Several other contracts have been advertised but not awarded.
Cr Anthony Brophy said he was pleased to see local companies among the successful tenderers.
“It is so pleasing to see so many local companies that have been able to be successful in their tendering,” he said.
“Apex Earthworks, for one. Mawson Construction, CAF Consulting and Spiire Australia, which is located here as well.”
Cr Geoff Dobson welcomed spending across a number of areas and highlighted the bank stabilisation and caravan park management contracts as two important ones.
“Tatura gets some, Kialla gets some, obviously Shepparton, and all through the municipality, but those two areas, certainly, I’ve looked at, and I congratulate Apex (bank stabilisation) especially and the management services of Victoria Park Lake Caravan Park, they’re doing a great job,” he said.
Cr James said another nine tenders had been advertised but not yet awarded.
“So lots of projects and works occurring in our towns as we return back to operations for 2024,” Cr James said.
“And evenly distributed across our regions as well, which is great to see.”
