During November’s meeting, council approved a new memorandum of understanding, extending its support for Goulburn Region Tourism as its Visitor Economy Partnership.
The partnership, established in 2023 and shared with Strathbogie and Mitchell shires, enables equal access to advocacy, funding and strategic support for tourism development.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said the move reflected council’s commitment to regional growth, noting that tourism played a “critical role in shaping the future of our region’s economy”.
“This partnership ensures Greater Shepparton has a strong voice in Victoria’s tourism sector, unlocking opportunities for increased visitation, investment and regional growth,” he said.
To qualify for annual Victorian Government funding, each council must contribute financially to the partnership.
In the 2025-26 financial year, Greater Shepparton contributed $121,000.
Combined with contributions from Strathbogie and Mitchell shire councils, Goulburn Regional Tourism secured $350,000 in funding.
