Now in its 68th year, the festival recognises the contribution seniors make to communities across NSW.
This year’s theme, Live life in colour, will be reflected through a series of free local events delivered in partnership by Edward River Council, Intereach and U3A.
Edward River Council Mayor Ashley Hall said the festival is an opportunity for older residents to “get out, try something new and enjoy the wonderful experiences our region has to offer”.
“Our seniors are the heart of our community; they bring wisdom, joy and resilience,” Cr Hall said. “We’re proud to celebrate them with a festival that brings our theme, ‘Live life in colour’, to life.”
The program begins on Tuesday March 3 with Smart Cooking, Smart Living for Seniors, a practical session offering nutritious, budget‑friendly cooking ideas.
The event includes a live demonstration and tips for preparing simple meals from a single main ingredient. Bookings are essential.
On Friday March 6, Deniliquin Town Hall will host a relaxed screening of the Australian film Palm Beach, complete with light refreshments.
The following week, on Tuesday March 10, the Edward River Library will run a Canva card‑making workshop, giving participants the chance to learn basic digital design skills while creating personalised cards to take home.
A highlight of the program will be the Ute Muster Site Experience on Friday March 13, offering a guided tour of the Ute Muster Museum, lunch and a special performance. Bus transport and self‑drive options will be available.
Intereach, which partners with Council to deliver the festival, said the week is about celebrating lifelong contributions and creating opportunities for older people to stay connected.
Co‑CEO Yvette Buhagiar said the festival reflects the creativity and resilience seen across the region’s senior community.
“At Intereach, we believe people should live the life they choose, whether that means remaining safely in your own home with supports or connecting with others through local events and activities,” she said.
All Seniors Festival events in the Edward River region are free, but bookings are required due to limited places. More information is available at edwardriver.nsw.gov.au.
