Rosemary Kariuki’s story is one of triumph over trauma and tells of her journey from childhood in Kenya to becoming advocate for migrant and refugee women in her role as police liaison officer in western Sydney.
A Joyful Life is her astonishing memoir, which chronicles her life as a child who survived many predators in her home where she took care of 15 siblings, the loss of three infants, years of domestic violence and the political unrest and violent clashes of her home country.
What makes her journey so remarkable is how, in the face of incredible hardship, Rosemary was able to find an infectious joy that she has shared with countless others.
Raw, direct and filled with Rosemary’s warmth and humour, A Joyful Life shows how kindness to ourselves and to others can allow us to regain an internal strength and ultimately become the writer of our own life story.
Arts Rutherglen invites you to an afternoon with Rosemary Kariuki, of raw storytelling, filled with warmth and humour.
The afternoon will move from Rosemary’s story into a joyous and powerful Drumming Circle, led by In the Groove.
