This International Women’s Day, Shepparton Culture Kitchen invites the community to gather around the table, taste the world and share stories that span generations and continents.

From Afghan to Indonesian, Sri Lankan to Syrian and Turkish cuisines, local women chefs will guide participants through hands-on workshops, live demonstrations and the rich histories behind each dish.
Culture Kitchen project manager Ane Fotu said the free event aimed to bring people together through food, stories and shared experiences.
“Across the session, participants can move between six cooking stations, watch live demonstrations, taste dishes and learn about the ingredients, traditions and personal histories that shape each meal,” she said.
“The workshops use food as a way to bring people together, creating space to learn from one another and build connections across generations and cultures.”
Taking place on Sunday, March 8, at the McIntosh Centre, the event invites participants to connect with the women of Shepparton Culture Kitchen and the stories behind their food.
Participants can learn Indonesian recipes with Rusminiwati Rose, Afghan dishes with Muzhgan Qazikhil, Sri Lankan favourites with Dilrukshi Peiris, Turkish cuisine with Sibel Kaymak, and Syrian meals with Shaza Alsmail, each bringing their love of cooking, family traditions and community connection to the table.
“Through Shepparton Culture Kitchen, International Women’s Day becomes a chance to share knowledge, celebrate culture and spend time together through cooking and eating,” Ane said.
“The workshops run from 10am to 2pm, and everyone is welcome to take part in the cooking, tasting and cultural celebration.”
