The event, located at 49 Heathcote-Moora Rd, Moora, 7km west of Rushworth, will celebrate the historical significance of working horses in Australian agriculture.
The main arena will feature horses participating in traditional activities, including long reining and log snigging.
“There will be demonstrations of shearing, ploughing, I think they are going to do bale loading using the old methods with the draft horses,” Moora Working Draught Horses Inc secretary Lyn Reade said.
The event will include market stalls focused on working horses, horse and cart rides, sheepdog trial demonstrations, and horseshoeing and blacksmith displays.
A barbecue lunch will be available at the big green shed for a charge.
“The group was originally formed to maintain the history of draft horses in Australia, because before we had all the fancy machinery that we have today and diesel power, we had horses,” Mrs Reade said.
“Pretty much everything on a farm was done in conjunction with draught horses.
“This group got together and wanted to preserve that and the workings around draught horses, because people don’t realise how much effect the draught horse had on Australia and their history.”
Dr Judith Mulholland from Farriervet, Lancaster, will present a talk at 1pm.
“She is the best vet I have come across in my life,” Mrs Reade said.
“And if anyone is interested in anything to do with horses, you wouldn’t want to miss hearing Judith talk.
“She also sponsors the Moora Working Draught Horse Muster each year.”
The day concludes with a 2.30pm parade of horses and vehicles, featuring the Max Seamer Memorial Award.
“Max was responsible for setting up Moora Draught Horses originally, he was one of the original members, so we have an award in his memory,” Mrs Reade said.
The event is supported by Community Bank, Rushworth and district, and Farriervet, Lancaster.
