The CFA has confirmed the Fire Danger Period will begin on Monday, November 3 for the Campaspe and Gannawarra shires.
Residents are encouraged to prepare their properties ahead of the period by cleaning up dry grass and leaves, and completing safe private burn-offs while permitted.
Deputy chief officer for the north-west region Trevor Weston stressed the importance of taking early action as the region continues to dry.
“After much consultation, there was strong support for introducing the fire danger period now to keep our communities as safe as possible,” he said.
“Even though grasslands might still look green in some areas, the ground underneath is much drier than in previous years, which makes fires more likely to spread.”
Lighting fires in the open without a permit during the danger period can attract a penalty of over $21,000 and 12 months imprisonment.
Those conducting burn-offs must notify authorities online by visiting www.firepermits.vic.gov.au or by phoning 1800 668 511
