Moira Miniature Rail and the GV Rail Club are combining to host a model and miniature railway day, which will feature an outdoor 1.2km passenger-carrying miniature railway and an indoor model railway show.
Organisers say the day will cater for people with a passion for trains and railways, as well as those out for a fun day.
“There’s something there for everyone,” Moira Miniature Rail president Laurie Kennedy said.
“A lot of them go ape over it. Some you can’t control because they’re that excited. It’s not just kids. It’s adults too.”
Mr Kennedy said there would be three trains taking passengers on the day and eight model railway displays from the GV Rail Club.
People will have the opportunity to talk with club members about their projects or to ask about building their own dream train-set.
“A lot of them are absolutely brilliant,” Mr Kennedy said.
“I’ve seen one that came in a suitcase. You have to see it to believe it.”
There will also be rail history paraphernalia and second-hand sales on the day.
Budding enthusiasts will even have the opportunity to drive a model train.
People planning to ride on the miniature railway will have to wear closed shoes, and small children be accompanied by an adult. There’s a $4 fee per person for train rides and it costs $4 for entry into the model railway show.
The Wunghnu Miniature Railway Spectacular will be held at the Wunghnu Recreation Reserve from 10am to 4pm. For more information, either email moiraminirail@outlook.com or call 03 5862 1048, 0467854 669 or 0437 525 690.
