In a recent edition of the Ensign we asked if anyone in the community could identify the team pictured, and the game about to take place.
Benalla footy historian Mick Prysliwski had asked if the photo could be published in the hope someone could help.
He was subsequently contacted by local man, Trevor Squires, who came through with the answer.
The fact the team here was wearing Benalla Demons colours was a red herring.
It turns out this is from the 1962 Junior League Grand Final.
It was a game between two Benalla teams, the Kiwis versus the Rockets, which was played on the Benalla Showgrounds.
The team pictured, the Kiwis, were the eventual winners of the game.
Mr Prysliwski said that another thing that had stumped him was that it had been assumed it was a senior team, and he was shocked that everyone pictured was under-18. Apparently some were much younger.
It is still unclear as to why they were in Demons jumpers. Perhaps someone in the community could shed some light on that.
