The exhibition, at Benalla Gallery’s pop-up space on Bridge St East, provides students from across the region an opportunity for artistic recognition in a public art space.
Representative of a range of media and topics, the exhibition highlights the creativity and diverse talents of young and emerging artists within our community.
Visitors can gain insights into the passions and concerns of the emerging generation, while upcoming students can see how their peers have responded to, and developed, curriculum requirements.
This year’s Showcase presents works of art exploring personal, political and environmental concerns.
Looking at where they are now and where we could be in the future, these young artists have focused on emotions, identity, memories, dreams and self-expression; the state of the natural environment and our place within it; the use of technology and its impact; and possible or alternate realities.
Benalla Art Gallery director, Eric Nash, said this exhibition showcased creative processes, imaginative ideas and skilful use of materials across a range of media.
“It demonstrates Benalla Art Gallery’s continuing, strong commitment to contemporary art and arts education,” he said.
“(Showcase is) always a highlight of the gallery’s annual program, with young artists from the region presenting a diverse array of thought-provoking and technically accomplished works.”
Showcase is on display March 8, and includes work from students attending:
